Getting started

1.  Find out what you can do to help local voluntary groups in Fareham by taking a look at our Fareham Volunteers vacancies bulletin.  Click here to view the latest edition.

2. Why should you volunteer in Retail? Click here.

3.  If you want to volunteer but cannot commit to a regular time, consider Event Volunteering.   This may mean helping out at occasional or one-off activities such as street collections, fetes, sporting events and carnivals.   Contact us to be added to the Event Volunteer list. We will contact you throughout the year with requests for help.

4.  Want to help a local sports club? Click here for the Join In UK website

How do I apply?

1.  Contact us to ask about applying for a vacancy we advertise:

  • We can give you contact details to apply to a group direct, or
  • We can put your name forward to a group asking them to send you more information

2.  Ask us about opportunities to make use of special skills you may have - we can contact local groups to try to create new opportunities.

3.  If you need a bit more help, you can make an appointment to come in for a chat with us and get personal guidance about volunteering that might suit you. You can bring a friend or supporter with you if you like.

4.  Apply on-line to vacancies advertised on the do-it.org recruitment platform

Please note: The Fareham Volunteers team will not put you in touch with any organisation unless instructed by you either in person or via the Do-it.org website.

What happens next?

Most voluntary groups will ask you to:

  • Come in for a chat about the vacancy you have applied for.
  • Complete an application form.
  • Provide referees (usually two).
  • Some volunteering roles will require a police check (DBS) and the group will help you apply free of charge.

Once you are placed

The group you volunteer for will arrange:

  • An induction - to explain more about their work and how you will help them.
  • A volunteering agreement - to set out how you and the group will work together. This will include matters like payment of expenses; support and supervision; insurance cover and keeping safe.  It is not a contract.
  • Training - this might be or before you start volunteering or on-the-job.

Keeping in touch

The Fareham Volunteers team will contact you from time to time to ask about your volunteering. Your feedback helps us.
